Managing clients and workspace currencies

Clients help you keep your Timether workspace organized. You can use clients to group related projects, track time under the right business or customer, and prepare invoices with the correct billing details.

For example, if you work with multiple companies, each company can be added as a client. Then, projects, time entries, and invoices can be connected back to the correct client.

Why clients matter

Clients act as the main structure for your projects and invoices.

A client can have one or more projects. Each project can contain tracked time, hourly rates, billable settings, and related time entries.

When it is time to invoice, Timether can use the client and project information to help prepare accurate billing records.

This makes it easier to separate work between different customers, businesses, departments, or brands.

Creating a client

To create a new client:

  1. Go to the Clients section in your workspace.

  2. Click Add Client or New Client.

  3. Enter the client name.

  4. Choose the client currency.

  5. Add any other available details, such as billing information or notes.

  6. Save the client.

Once saved, the client can be used when creating projects and organizing future work.

Setting the client currency

Each client can have its own currency.

The currency setting helps Timether understand which currency should be used when preparing project billing and invoices for that client.

Currency codes are normalized to uppercase automatically. For example:

  • usd becomes USD

  • eur becomes EUR

  • lkr becomes LKR

This keeps currency values consistent across your workspace and helps avoid confusion when working with multiple clients in different regions.

Customizing a client

You can update a client’s details when needed.

To customize a client:

  1. Open the Clients section.

  2. Select the client you want to update.

  3. Edit the available details, such as the name, currency, billing details, or notes.

  4. Save your changes.

Updating a client does not remove past tracked time or invoices. It only changes the client details used moving forward.

Archiving a client

If you are no longer actively working with a client, you can archive them.

Archiving is useful when you want to clean up your active workspace without deleting historical records.

When a client is archived:

  • The client is hidden from active selection lists.

  • The client will no longer appear when starting new timers.

  • The client will no longer appear when creating new projects.

  • Past tracked time remains saved.

  • Existing invoices remain available.

  • Historical reports and records are not deleted.

Archiving a client does not delete the client’s past work. It simply removes the client from active day-to-day use.

When to archive a client

You may want to archive a client when:

  • A contract has ended.

  • The client is no longer active.

  • You want to reduce clutter in project and timer selection lists.

  • You want to keep historical records without using the client for new work.

Archiving is safer than deleting because it keeps your past time entries, invoices, and billing history intact.

Unarchiving a client

Archived clients can be restored at any time.

To unarchive a client:

  1. Go to the Clients section.

  2. Open the archived clients view or filter, if available.

  3. Select the client you want to restore.

  4. Choose Unarchive or Restore.

Once unarchived, the client will appear again in active selection lists and can be used for new projects, timers, and future work.

Important note about historical records

Archiving a client does not affect your existing records.

Any time entries, projects, invoices, or reports connected to that client will remain available. This helps preserve your billing history while keeping your active workspace clean and easy to use.
